CASTING CALL: 2021 NC 10by10 Play Festival

July 17 and 18, 2021, 1-5pm EST


OdysseyStage is seeking multifaceted actors to perform in the 2021 NC 10by10 Play Festival, running September 17-19 and 23-26, 2021 at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro. The 10-actor ensemble will portray multiple featured roles in ten 10-minute plays.  A stipend is available.

Casting breakdown (expected):

All roles are open to ethnically-diverse casting except where noted. The roles are not “set in stone” and the character breakdowns may change as casting and rehearsals build the show.  Actors may audition for any role that has a character they are interested in playing.  Full character breakdowns and play synopses are available at this link.

ANALISSA: Female, 19-25, nervous, excited farm girl in love. Actor will also play:


JULIAN: Male, Hispanic/BIPOC, 20-25, Actor will also play:


STEPHEN: Male, 20s-30s to play 19. Intelligent Vietnam war draftee. Actor will also play:


THE DEVIL: Male 20-30s (will also consider any gender/age) to play ageless deity. Comedic, cynical, rebellious, loves the 80’s. Actor will also play:


NELGATH: Female, 20-40. Champion mystical warrior. Strong character actress. Actor will also play:


CRAIG: Male, 40-60. Comedic neighbor and conspiracy theorist. Actor will also play:


ANN: Female, 40s-50s. College professor, LGBTQ, caring for elderly father. Actor will also play:

  • MAXINE WINTERS: Aspiring, optimistic and talented Hollywood actress.

LEWIS: Male, Black, 50s-60s. Lonely widower with regrets. Actor will also play:


MAGGIE: Female, 50s-60s. Patient, faithful mother at the end of her rope. Actor will also play:

  • SHERIFF ARLENE: Calm, dedicated, cares for her community.
  • DORIS: Reincarnated, loves her husband.
  • MANAGER: Amusing, knowledgeable bureaucrat.

BILL: Male, 60-70s. Stroke victim, angry yet sympathetic. Actor will also play:


Audition information:



Auditions will be held VIRTUALLY, Saturday and Sunday, 7/17-18, from 1-5pm. To register for an audition:


  1. Fill out the Audition Information form.
  2. Register for a timeslot at Signup Genius (you will also have the option to do this after submitting your information).


After you have registered for a timeslot, you will receive a confirmation email that contains a calendar invitation and the Zoom link to attend at the appropriate date and time. You must register for a second timeslot if you wish to read for another role (or character assigned to another role).


Actors will be asked to read from the sides available above, and may be paired/grouped with other actors in their timeslot.


In lieu of attending the audition, actors may submit a self taped video audition, performing a reading from the sides for your selected character(s). Please post the video to YouTube or other streaming service, then include the video link when you fill out the Audition Information form. You will not need to sign up for a timeslot.

Callbacks will be held in person on Sunday, 7/25, from 1-5pm at the Leggett Theatre, William Peace University, 15 E. Peace St., Raleigh NC 27604. The theater is located in the Main administration building on the second floor. Please park in one of the two lots adjacent to the campus on Halifax St, near the corner of Peace and Halifax. Rehearsal information:


Rehearsals will take place 8/16 through 9/16 at The ArtsCenter, 300-G East Main St. Carrboro NC 27510, with the first week being online via Zoom. Rehearsals typically will run 6-9pm weekdays and 2-5pm on Saturdays, with two longer days during tech week (9/12-16).  Actors should plan to be available for all scheduled rehearsals prior to committing to the show (they may not be called for every rehearsal, however).
