Casting Call

“Fathers” is a short film about the messy fabric of love, dreams, and commitment, Fathers is a character-driven story about James Harris, a father stuck in an existential crisis over a life which fails to live up to his expectations.

Shoot Dates: Summer 2021

Location: Columbia, South Carolina- Locals or willing to work as local only.

Rate: $10 an hour for principal photography plus time and a half if scheduled for over 8 hours. Rehearsals not paid but scheduled at everyone’s convenience.

This will be a covid conscious set with testing and increased hygiene standards.

We are casting for the following roles:

JAMES HARRIS (late 20’s – early 30’s, any ethnicity), a young adult man who struggles with the burden of being a new father. His uncertainties and insecurities prevent him from engagement with his family, and his lack of sleep threatens to drive him over the edge. His fear of abandonment drives the story.

LISA HAWKE (late 20’s – early 30’s, any ethnicity), a young adult married woman, forced into balancing her work life and her home life. A fast food service employee, she feels trapped by a mundane routine. She has a resilience that her husband lacks, yet lack of sleep and stress weigh on her.

MR. GARVIS (late 60’s, any ethnicity), an older, divorced, retired teacher who lives for the impact he’s made on his students’ lives. There’s something very sad about Garvis, who drifts through diners night after night, seeking connection. A ruminating, aging man.

YOUNG JAMES JR. (13, any ethnicity), a boy who craves a closer connection with his father, yet his attempts at connection are met with stinging rebukes.

MR.HARRIS SR. (late 30’s, any ethnicity ), a bitter, divorced, middle-aged man who fails as a father. His rage and guilt lead him to mistreat his son repeatedly. He’s the sort of man who leaves when most needed and lashes out at the people he most cares for.

ANNE (late 30s, any ethnicity), a waitress working to provide for her live-in older mother and her teenage daughter. She works every night at the diner, but she’s completely content in her life and her relationships.
